The experience

The tour starts at Fushimi Inari Shrine, where thousands of vermillion torii gates form pathways up the forested mountainside. You'll pass Yasui Konpira Shrine, known for severing bad relationships, and reach Yasaka Pagoda (one of Japan's oldest wooden structures, built without nails), which stands as a symbol of Kyoto itself. The walk ends at Yasaka Shrine, the headquarters of 2,300 related shrines across Japan and a place dedicated to prosperity and protection.
