Kimono rental in Nagasaki Dejima: Wear and walk the historic site
Dress in kimono and photograph yourself inside Japan's only Western trading post
Rent a traditional kimono at Dejima Hoppen, a rental shop inside Nagasaki's Nationally designated Dejima Dutch Trading Post Ruins, and spend the afternoon walking the restored Edo-period site in your chosen garment. A professional dresser prepares you in about 20 minutes, adds a simple hairstyle, and includes hair accessories, zori sandals and a bag. Over 100 kimonos fit sizes from children aged three to adults up to 190 centimeters. You can stay dressed and explore Dejima's tatami rooms and gardens until 5 PM, and a Japanese-style room in the adjacent Chief Factor's Residence offers indoor photo spots if weather turns.

The experience
You arrive at Dejima with a free afternoon and want to wear kimono without the rush of a city center rental. Dejima Hoppen sits inside the historic site itself, so you dress on location and step straight into the Edo-period atmosphere instead of traveling between shops. The rental shop holds your luggage while you explore, so you move through the narrow streets and gardens unencumbered.
The dressing takes about 20 minutes per person, handled by a professional dresser who coordinates the layers and fit. You choose from over 100 kimonos (patterns, colors and weights vary), and sizes run from children three years old through adults up to 175 centimeters for women and 190 centimeters for men. The staff add a simple hairstyle and give you hair accessories, zori sandals and a small bag, so you arrive dressed and ready to move. If you travel with children over 15, they can join without an adult accompanying them.
Dejima itself is the draw: the only place in Japan that traded with the West during the Edo period, now restored with Japanese-style tatami rooms, a small garden and period architecture. You photograph yourself against that backdrop in your chosen kimono. The Chief Factor's Residence next door has an indoor Japanese-style room for photos on rainy days. You can stay in kimono and keep exploring until 5 PM, when you return to the shop to change back.
