The experience
The tour moves through Nagasaki by taxi, which lets you reach sites larger tour buses cannot access. You'll walk through Dejima, the fan-shaped island that was Japan's only window to the outside world during its isolation era: restored buildings, warehouses, and merchant houses all stand as they did when Dutch traders worked there in the 17th century. From there you move into the city's living present: Nagasaki Chinatown, Japan's oldest, where streets still carry the energy of 300 years of Chinese trade, and the famous shrine that anchors local life.
The tour also holds space for Nagasaki's harder history. The Atomic Bomb Museum walks you through August 9, 1945: artifacts, photographs, personal accounts of the devastation and the city's recovery. The Peace Park sits near the bomb's epicenter, marked by the Peace Statue and sculptures from around the world. You'll also visit the 26 Martyrs site, a religious landmark tied to the crucifixions of the 16th and 17th centuries, and Oura Church, Japan's oldest existing Christian church, built in 1864 by French missionaries and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. If time is tight, you choose between Oura Church and Glover Garden: the hillside park filled with Western-style Meiji-era buildings, including the Glover Residence, the oldest Western wooden house in Japan. A lookout point over Nagasaki Harbor rounds out the day, either Mt. Inasa or Nabekanmuriyama depending on conditions.
Entrance fees to all paid attractions are included, and the guide is with you the whole time. Taxi fares beyond the tour route, food, and drinks are separate. A minimum of four guests is required to run the tour. If that's unlikely, the operator will reach out before your booking is confirmed.

Is this one for you?The tour departs from your ship and returns you to it on a fixed schedule, so you don't need a car or local transport: the taxis and guide handle the route. The semi-private format keeps the group small enough to move through sites without the pace of a large bus tour, and entrance fees are already paid, so you walk straight in.

What is Dejima and why is it on this tour?
Dejima is a restored fan-shaped island in Nagasaki that served as Japan's only trading post with the outside world during the country's 300-year isolation period. Originally a Dutch trading post in the 17th century, it's now an open-air museum where you walk through period buildings, warehouses, and merchant houses that show the cultural and economic exchange between Japan and the West.

Glover Garden is a hillside park with Western-style Meiji-era buildings and views of Nagasaki Harbor, including the Glover Residence, the oldest Western wooden house in Japan.
