The experience
The tour runs six hours and moves through Kanazawa's most photographed sites, starting in the Higashiyama geisha district where you'll visit the Shima Geisha house, built in 1820, and shoot in the quiet teahouse streets where Japanese films have been shot. From there you move to Kanazawa's largest fresh food market for lunch (at your own expense, with several options), then to the Nomura Samurai residence in the Bukeyashiki area to see how samurai lived. The photographer guides you through each location, pointing out angles and light while capturing candid moments and portraits.
The second half focuses on Kanazawa's landmarks. You'll see the Oyama Shrine, built in 1599 with its distinctive 25-meter Dutch stained glass tower gate, cross the restored Nezumitamon Bridge over the castle moat, and spend time in Kenroku-en Garden: one of Japan's three most beautiful landscape gardens, with a variety of flowering trees that shift with the seasons. The photographer saves dedicated photo sessions for Kenroku-en and the Ishikawamon Gate at Kanazawa Castle, the sites that deliver the strongest images. You receive 30 edited digital images selected by the photographer from the day's shoot.
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. If you're staying in the Komatsu or Kaga area, that pickup point is available as an option at checkout. The photographer speaks English and Japanese, and provides location-based photography tips throughout the day. Entrance fees to sites and lunch are at your own expense.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
What is the Higashiyama geisha district like when we photograph there?
Higashiyama is Kanazawa's largest chaya district, a quiet and peaceful area where geishas have entertained since the Edo period. The Shima Geisha house, built in 1820, is now a museum showing how geishas lived, and many Japanese films have been shot in the surrounding teahouse streets, so the setting has strong visual character without crowds.
How much time do we spend at Kenroku-en Garden?
Kenroku-en is one of Japan's three most beautiful landscape gardens and receives a dedicated photo session as part of the tour. The garden features different flowering trees depending on the season and is built on the former outer grounds of Kanazawa Castle, so it is a major stop in the day's itinerary.
What do the 30 edited images include?
The photographer selects 30 digital images from the day's shoot and delivers them edited. The images are chosen to capture both portraits of you and travel photography from the sites you visit, including dedicated sessions at Kenroku-en Garden and Kanazawa Castle.
Can we visit the Nomura Samurai residence, and what will we see there?
Yes, the Nomura Samurai residence in the Bukeyashiki area is included in the tour itinerary. It offers a step back in time to show how samurai lived during the period when Kanazawa Castle was the seat of the Maeda Clan's power.
Is lunch included, and where do we eat?
Lunch is at your own expense and takes place at Kanazawa's largest fresh food market, where several meal options are available. The market visit is part of the tour and gives you a chance to eat where locals do.
