The Experience

The first thing I noticed was the way the sunlight slipped through the clear bottom of the kayak—kind of like standing on glass, only warmer and wobblier. I’d expected to be nervous about the camera, but our photographer (I think his name was Andre?) just grinned and said, “You ready for your closeup?” in that easy Jamaican way. He walked us down to the water, which was surprisingly cool around my ankles. Afterwards, I sat for a minute just watching the sky turn softer over Montego Bay. My legs were mostly dry (which honestly surprised me), but my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. The photos came a couple days later—about 7 edited ones plus some raw video—and yeah, I still look at them when I need a mood boost.
