The experience

The day starts with pickup from your Montego Bay hotel or port, then heads east to Ocho Rios. Once at Dunn's River Falls, you climb the natural terraces of the cascade. Each step is a pool you wade through on your way up. The falls drop straight into the beach, so the climb ends at sea level where you can swim and rest. If climbing isn't your only interest, ziplines run alongside the falls, or you can skip the climb and stay at the beach.

Blue Hole sits deeper in the island, hidden in the tropical mountains as a series of natural limestone sinkholes with their own small waterfalls. The main pool is 20 feet deep and fed by a freshwater spring. You can jump from the ledge if you're comfortable with the height, or use the rope swing for a gentler entry into the water. The setting is secluded (far fewer people than at the main falls), and the water stays cool year-round.

Your guide handles the route and timing, and the air-conditioned van keeps you comfortable between sites. Bottled water and WiFi on board are included. The full day gives you time to swim and explore both locations without rushing, though lunch is on your own. Can I climb Dunn's River Falls if I'm not very fit?

Dunn's River Falls requires a high level of physical fitness to climb the terraces safely. The climb is steep and the rocks are slippery.
