The experience

The train from central Rome gets you there in 15 minutes, then a 5-minute walk brings you to the farmhouse. You're met with snacks and a house wine ready to begin. The first part is a walking tour through the vines themselves. You see the Roman countryside spread out from the vineyard, not a view you'd get from the city. Then you move to the tasting room at the farmhouse for the three local Frascati wines, each one paired with local snacks and salumi.

On weekdays and Saturdays, the train is the easiest route. On Sundays, the regional schedule is too thin, so you'll need to drive. Either way, you're not dependent on a tour operator's shuttle or a rental car arrangement. You control the timing. The whole experience is two hours, which leaves the rest of your afternoon or evening free in Rome. If you want to take bottles home, you can buy them on-site or arrange to ship them.

Ages 16 and up can taste the wines with parental permission if under 18. Younger guests get non-alcoholic beverages instead. Infants and small children can come along in a stroller or pram, and service animals are welcome.
