The experience
You pick up your 125cc automatic Vespa at Largo di Torre Argentina and meet your guide, who rides alongside you through the city's tightest passages. The bike handles the narrow alleys and tight corners that cars can't navigate, so you reach monuments most tours only see from a distance. Helmets and fuel are included. You just need a valid driver's license (US citizens bring an International Driving Permit) and real experience riding scooters in city traffic. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French, depending on your booking.
The route covers twelve major sites in three hours: the Roman Forum and its ancient ruins, the Colosseum and Arch of Constantine, Circus Maximus overlooking Palatine Hill, the Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin (home to the Mouth of Truth), Piazza Venezia with Trajan's Column and the Vittoriano Monument, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona with its fountains, Castel Sant'Angelo and its angel-lined bridge, St. Peter's Square, and Campo de' Fiori's daily market. Your guide stops at each one to explain its history and architecture before you ride to the next.
Groups stay under ten people, so the pace stays manageable and the guide can answer questions at each stop. You're not locked into a fixed itinerary: if a particular site grabs you, the guide can linger. The tour suits anyone comfortable on a scooter in city traffic. Minimum age is 21. Dress code is smart casual, and public transportation is nearby if you need an alternative way back to your hotel.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
What's the Mouth of Truth at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin?
The Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin houses a large marble mask called the Mouth of Truth, an ancient Roman artifact carved into a face. According to legend, if you place your hand in its mouth and tell a lie, it will bite your hand off. The guide will explain its real history and the medieval tower that makes this church Rome's tallest medieval belfry.
Do I need to have ridden a Vespa before to join this tour?
You need strong experience riding scooters in city traffic conditions. This is a requirement because Rome's streets are narrow and crowded. The operator expects you to be comfortable navigating that environment on two wheels before you book.
Can I choose between driving the Vespa myself or having the guide drive?
Yes. The tour is available as a self-driven option where you ride your own Vespa, or as a driver option where you ride as a passenger on the guide's scooter. You choose which one at checkout.
How many stops does the tour make?
The tour visits twelve major sites: the Roman Forum, Colosseum, Circus Maximus, Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin, Piazza Venezia, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Castel Sant'Angelo, St. Peter's Square and Campo de' Fiori market.
