The experience

The tour starts at Castelvecchio Bridge, the late-medieval stone crossing that connects the castle to the Adige's left bank. It was nearly destroyed in bombing and rebuilt to match the original. A detail your guide will unpack as you cross it. From there, the route moves through the city's layers: the Arco dei Gavi, an elegant 1st-century Roman arch built to honor an important local family, then into the squares where Verona's power actually lived.

Piazza delle Erbe was the Roman forum, the center of city life two thousand years ago. Today it's lined with cafés and ringed by buildings, but the monuments in the square still mark the different rulers who shaped Verona. The fountain is Scaligeri work. Next comes Piazza dei Signori, the medieval seat of power, where a statue of Dante Alighieri has stood since 1865. You'll also see the courtyard of the Capuleti house, where Juliet lived according to Shakespeare, and Romeo's medieval palace across the way (viewed from outside, as it's a private home). The Scaligeri cemetery, with its three arches built for the family's rulers, sits nearby. The walk ends in Piazza Brà, where you stand in front of the Arena: one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world and still the setting for Verona's opera season each summer.

Groups stay small, and the tour runs rain or shine. A minimum of 2 participants is required for the tour to operate. If you want to enter the Arena and hear its full story, you can book the combined option that adds a guided tour inside. Otherwise, you see it from the piazza. Starting October 1st, 2026, if you book the Arena tour, send your full name ahead so your guide can hand you your ticket on the day.
