The experience

The tour begins at Piazza Brà, Verona's largest square, where you meet your local guide. From there you move straight to the Arena di Verona: one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world, still in active use today for opera and concert performances. Skip-the-line entry means you walk past the queue at the door and spend your time inside rather than waiting. The guide walks you through the structure and its history as you stand in the actual arena where thousands gather for performances each year.

The route then carries you through the historic heart of the city to Piazza delle Erbe, an elegant square filled with sculptures, palaces and architectural artefacts that forms the center of Verona's nightlife. You'll see Palazzo Barbieri, the Town Hall, built originally as an Austrian Civic guard headquarters. Piazza dei Signori follows: the square where the city's lords once met, now anchored by a statue of Dante Alighieri, the Italian poet it's also known by. The Arche Scaligere, a series of Gothic tombs built for the Scaligeri family who ruled Verona in the 13th and 14th centuries, sit in a walled court outside the nearby church of Santa Maria Antica.

The final stop is Juliet's House, a Gothic-style building from the 1300s with a stone balcony said to have inspired Shakespeare's tragedy. Thousands of visitors come each year to stand beneath that balcony and make a wish. Your skip-the-line ticket gets you inside the museum without waiting at the entrance.
