The experience
You navigate Venice using a digital guide connected to Google Maps, so you're never guessing which direction to walk or which street leads where. The commentary (available in English, Spanish, Italian, French and German) plays through your phone's speakers or your own headphones as you approach each stop. The Frari Church, a Gothic structure spanning eight centuries of art and faith, opens the route. From there you move through neighborhoods and along the Grand Canal, a 4-kilometer waterway that cuts through the city in a distinctive inverted S shape.
The guide surfaces details most visitors miss: the story behind the Ponte delle Tette, a bridge with a curious history tied to the city's past; a viewing terrace near the Rialto Bridge that locals know; the legends embedded in the Doge's Palace, a Venetian Gothic landmark that once housed the city's rulers. You'll pass the Bridge of Sighs and stand in St. Mark's Square, which Napoleon called "the most beautiful salon in Europe." The Bovolo Staircase, a hidden spiral structure among the streets, gets its own stop with directions to photograph it from outside.
Monument tickets: 5€ for the Frari Church, 6€ for St. Mark's Basilica, 8€ for the Bovolo Staircase, 30€ for the Doge's Palace: are not included and you buy them on site if you choose to enter. The digital guide itself takes three to four hours to complete, but you control the rhythm: stop for a coffee, linger at a square, skip a site, or return another day to finish. You'll need a smartphone with an active internet connection and the ability to hear audio through speakers or headphones.
