The experience
Download the World City Trail app before you go, log in with your 10-digit booking reference, and you're ready to start whenever suits you. There's no guide waiting, no fixed schedule, and no time pressure: you walk at your own pace, solve a riddle or puzzle at each stop using what you observe around you, and the app reveals the next location. The route covers roughly 3km and takes around 2.5 hours on average, though that stretches or shrinks depending on how long you linger at each site or whether you detour for a gelato.
The app guides you to 10+ major attractions: Santa Maria Gloriosa Dei Frari, the Rialto Bridge, Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Basilica, Teatro La Fenice, and others, plus hidden gems and quieter spots woven into the route. At each stop, you'll find optional AI narration in one of eight languages (English, German, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, or Chinese) if you'd rather listen than read. The app also includes hand-picked local restaurant and shop recommendations so you can eat and shop like someone who knows the city, not like a tourist following a guidebook.
You can rearrange the order of stops, skip any location, or pause mid-walk and pick it up tomorrow or next week: your access lasts a full year. The only hard requirement is a fully charged smartphone with active mobile data. Disable any VPN and avoid city Wi-Fi, as both will disconnect the app. Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothes are the only gear you need.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese and Dutch.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (1 to 11 years): free.
What exactly do I do at each stop on the scavenger hunt?
At each stop, you solve a riddle or puzzle using your observation of the surroundings: the architecture, details, or layout of the landmark itself. The puzzle unlocks the location of your next destination, so you're discovering the city by solving clues rather than following a map.
Can I really start and finish wherever I want in Venice?
Yes. The app suggests starting at Santa Maria Gloriosa Dei Frari for the most logical route, which concludes near San Giorgio dei Greci, but you can begin and end anywhere. You can also rearrange the stops in any order that suits your day.
Do I need to pay extra to enter any of the attractions on the route?
No. Every puzzle is tied to the outdoor areas of the attractions, so you won't need to pay for entry or spend money at any stop. On certain dates, day-trippers from outside Venice may be required to pay a €5 city access fee, which is separate from this activity.
How long does the whole activity take?
The walk covers about 3km and takes roughly 2.5 hours on average, but that depends entirely on your pace. You can pause at any point to explore a site more closely, grab a break, or come back the next day and pick up exactly where you left off.
