Breathe underwater among Roman statues and mosaics, guided every moment

Discover Scuba Diving is a first dive for the uncertified in the Baia Submerged Park near Naples, where you descend among submerged Roman ruins with a dedicated instructor at your side for the full 45 minutes. Before entering the water, you complete a medical form, short e-learning and a theory lesson covering equipment and underwater behavior. The dive itself takes you past statues, mosaics and ancient structures of the Roman city, now home to marine life, while your instructor provides hands-on support throughout.

The experience

The Baia Submerged Park sits underwater off Naples, a Roman city that sank due to bradyseism in the Phlegraean Fields. What was once the playground of emperors and senators (thermal complexes, statues, colorful mosaics) now rests on the seafloor, accessible only by diving. This experience is built for people who have never dived before. You need no certification. Children from age 10 are welcome. Before you arrive, you'll complete a medical form to determine if a doctor's clearance is needed, and you'll work through e-learning modules at your own pace.

On the day of the dive, an instructor leads you through a theory lesson covering the basics of breathing underwater, the equipment you'll use, and how to move safely in the water. Then you descend into the park for approximately 45 minutes. Your instructor stays beside you, holding your hand throughout, pointing out the ruins and marine life while you float weightlessly through this submerged world. Depending on which of the park's routes you visit, you'll see statues, black and white mosaics, or colorful tile work: all part of the ancient Roman structures now inhabited by fish and other sea creatures.

The experience includes boat transport to the dive site, all SCUBA equipment, showers and changing rooms, and a certificate of participation valid as your first dive toward a PADI Open Water certification anywhere in the world. You also receive personal medical insurance for the dive and keep access to the e-learning materials forever. Park entry is included, so there are no additional fees once you've booked.

The park contains the submerged remains of the ancient Roman city of Baia, including statues, mosaics in color and black-and-white, and thermal complexes. The structures now sit on the seafloor and are populated by marine life, so you'll see both the archaeological ruins and the fish and sea creatures that have made this underwater city their home.

How long does the whole experience take, and what's included in the time?

The total experience is three hours. This covers your theory lesson on land, the boat ride to the dive site, the 45-minute dive itself, and time for showers and changing afterward. You'll also have time to review your medical form and e-learning before the dive begins.

Do I need a diving certification to do this?

No certification is required. Discover Scuba Diving is specifically for uncertified divers taking their first dive. The certificate you receive at the end counts as your first dive toward a PADI Open Water certification if you decide to pursue full training later.
