You shop the Sanremo market for ingredients, then cook an entire four-course meal in someone's kitchen.

A hands-on cooking class in Sanremo where you source ingredients at the local fruit and vegetable market, then prepare pasta, a Ligurian antipasto, a main course and dessert in a private home kitchen. The class runs five hours and ends with a family-style dinner. Wine and Riviera Ligure olive oil tasting are included, and non-cooking guests can join for the meal at an extra cost. Your host speaks English, Italian or French, and you'll receive recipes to recreate the dishes at home.

The experience

The class starts at the Sanremo Casino, then moves to the market where you and your host pick seasonal vegetables, herbs and other ingredients for the day's menu. This is not a tour of the stalls. You're shopping for real, choosing what will go into your pots. Once you have everything, you head to the home kitchen where the actual cooking begins.

You'll make fresh pasta and its sauce, a typical Mediterranean antipasto, a main course and either panna cotta or tiramisù for dessert. Your host guides you through each step and handles the techniques you need to know. The recipes are simple enough to recreate at home without special equipment. Between cooking stages, you'll taste PDO Riviera Ligure extra virgin olive oil and Taggiasca olives. An Italian aperitivo, Prosecco, arrives before dinner, and wine selected by local artisan producers pairs with the four-course meal you've just made.

Non-cooking friends or family members can join you for the dinner portion. The operator quotes a separate price for them on request. Children from age four are welcome, and the experience wraps up with a Med Food Lab certificate and printed recipes so you can teach the dishes to people at home.

Is this one for you? This is a hands-on class where you do the cooking yourself, not a demonstration you watch. It suits anyone who wants to learn Italian techniques and leave with recipes they can use at home, and it works well for small groups (friends, family or colleagues), who want to cook together and share a meal afterward.
