The experience
How do you see the Sistine Chapel, Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona without losing your ship? This tour leaves Civitavecchia Port with a private driver and returns you in time for boarding, so the day's route is locked around your cruise schedule. You travel by luxury car with a chauffeur who handles all the transfers between sites, and you meet your private guide at Piazza Navona to begin the walking portion of the day.
Piazza Navona opens with three fountains designed by Bernini and Borromini between 1647 and 1651. Your guide walks you through the Fountain of the Four Rivers and the Sant'Agnese in Agone Church before moving on to the Pantheon, a Roman building nearly 2,000 years old whose dome and proportions still stand as a striking example of imperial architecture. From there you walk to Trevi Fountain in the Quirinale district, then to the Spanish Steps: 138 irregular steps connecting two piazzas and lined with shops and cafés. The walking portion covers Rome's central landmarks in sequence, so you move through the city on foot rather than stopping and starting with transport.
The Vatican Museums portion includes skip-the-line entry, so you bypass the queue at the door and go straight inside to see works by Raphael, Michelangelo, Botticelli and Perugino, the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel. You have three hours of free time inside the Vatican to move at your own pace, eat lunch or shop. Your driver then returns you to Civitavecchia Port in time for your ship's departure. A professional guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French. You choose your language when you book.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 6): free.
What is Piazza Navona and why does the tour start there?
Piazza Navona is one of Rome's largest squares, built on the site of a Roman stadium and dominated by three fountains designed by Baroque masters Bernini and Borromini between 1647 and 1651. The Fountain of the Four Rivers in the center is considered Bernini's masterpiece, with four figures each representing a river from a different continent. Your guide meets you there to begin the walking tour through central Rome.
Do I have to visit the Pantheon, or can I skip it if I run short on time?
The Pantheon is part of the fixed itinerary, and the tour is timed to fit all sites into the port day. However, if the queue at the Pantheon is too long, you may view it from the outside instead and continue to the next stop. The tour order can also be reversed depending on how close your booking is to the tour date.
Is lunch included, or do I need to pay separately?
Lunch is not included in the base tour price. You have three hours of free time inside the Vatican Museums to find a restaurant or café and eat at your own expense. You can choose to add lunch as an option when you book.
What happens if I'm worried about missing my ship?
Your private driver is timed to return you to Civitavecchia Port in time for your ship's boarding. The entire tour is built around cruise schedules, so the route and pace are locked to get you back on schedule. Communicate your ship's departure time when you book so the driver knows your deadline.
Will I see Michelangelo's Last Judgement in the Sistine Chapel?
From January to April 2026, the Last Judgement fresco will be covered by scaffolding for restoration work and will not be visible. The Sistine Chapel, its vault decorated by Michelangelo, the Vatican Museums and Raphael's Rooms remain open during this period, but the entire wall of the Last Judgement will be under maintenance.
