Pottery workshop Sardinia: Throw on the lathe
Shape your own ceramic keepsake with expert guidance and a local snack
A 90-minute pottery workshop in Sardinia where you learn to throw clay on the lathe from a professional potter with over 25 years of experience. You'll work at your own station, centering clay and shaping a bowl or jar with personalized guidance suited to your level, whether you're a complete beginner or returning to the wheel. Your finished piece gets fired and can be picked up or shipped to you later.
The experience
The session runs 90 minutes from a small welcome (a typical Sardinian snack and drink) straight into hands-on work. You'll spend the first few minutes getting oriented to the lathe itself, then move to your own wheel where the real learning starts. The potter guides you through centering the clay, the foundation of everything that follows, and then into shaping: a small bowl, a jar, whatever takes form under your hands. The instruction adapts to where you are (absolute beginner or someone returning after years away), so you're not watching a demo or following a script, you're actually doing the thing.
Each participant gets an individual lathe and the full run of materials: clay, tools, water, whatever you need to work. The potter stays close, offering corrections and tips as you go. Your piece doesn't leave the studio that day. It gets finished, fired in the kiln, and then you arrange pickup or have it shipped. That's the part you handle separately, but the firing itself is included, so what you make actually becomes a finished object to take home or display.

Is this one for you?The session is 90 minutes of hands-on work at the wheel, so you're standing and concentrating the whole time, not sitting and watching. Book this if you want to actually make something with your hands rather than observe a demonstration.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and Italian.
What do I actually make during the 90 minutes?
You shape a single piece (typically a small bowl or jar) using the lathe wheel. The potter shows you how to center the clay and guide it into form, and you work at your own pace with guidance. Beginners often end up with a simple bowl. If you've thrown before, you might attempt something with a lip or a narrower opening. One piece per session is the standard.
Do I need pottery experience to join?
No. The workshop is designed for both absolute beginners and people who've worked with clay before. The potter customizes the instruction to your level, so you're not held back if you've thrown before, and you're not lost if this is your first time touching a wheel.
What happens to the piece I make?
The potter finishes and fires it in the kiln after you leave. You can pick it up later from the workshop, or arrange to have it shipped to you. Shipping is your cost and your arrangement, but the firing is included in the class.
Is this workshop wheelchair accessible?
Yes. All areas and surfaces of the workshop are wheelchair accessible, and the space is set up to accommodate visitors with mobility needs.
