Pompeii Tour and Cooking Class: Learn Pasta in Italy
Pasta made the way Neapolitan families have always made it, not the way cookbooks say to
A six-hour class combining a guided tour of Pompeii's archaeological site with hands-on cooking instruction in an authentic Italian home. You'll walk the Roman city buried by lava in 79 AD, then learn to make pasta using traditional family techniques before sitting down to eat together. Small groups of no more than twenty join the archaeological portion. The cooking happens in an intimate setting where Mamma teaches recipes passed down through generations.

The experience
The day starts with a two-hour guided walk through Pompeii itself: the Roman city frozen in 79 AD when Vesuvius erupted. Your guide leads a small group through the archaeological site, showing you what daily life looked like nearly two thousand years ago. After the tour, you leave the ruins behind and head to a real Italian family home, not a cooking school or a restaurant kitchen.
Once there, Mamma welcomes you like family and puts you to work. Your hands learn to make pasta the way hers do: techniques that live in muscle memory and family tradition rather than in any cookbook. As you work the dough, knead it, shape it, she shares why Italian cooking is built around family and the ritual of eating together. You're not watching a demonstration. You're doing the work, learning by doing it wrong and then right, the way people actually learn to cook.
When the pasta is ready, you sit down together to eat what you made, with water and wine included. Before you leave, you take the recipes home, not printed cards, but the ones Mamma taught you, written down so you can make them again. A minimum of two people must book together. Children are welcome from age six.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (6 to 12 years). Children under 6 can't be included in the booking.
What exactly do I learn to make in the cooking class?
You make fresh pasta by hand using traditional Neapolitan techniques that Mamma has used for years. The focus is on the methods (how to work the dough, shape it, and understand why each step matters), so you can recreate the dish at home.
How much time do I spend at the archaeological site versus cooking?
The guided tour of Pompeii takes two hours. The cooking class and meal together make up the rest of the six-hour experience. You move from the ruins to the home after the archaeological portion ends.
Is this a private class or will I be cooking with other travelers?
The Pompeii tour portion includes a small group of up to twenty people. The cooking class happens in an intimate family home setting, so the group size there is much smaller and more personal.
What is included in the price?
Entry to Pompeii, the two-hour guided tour, the cooking class with Mamma, lunch (the pasta you make), water, and wine are all included. You also take home the recipes.
Can I choose to start from Naples instead of meeting in Pompeii?
Yes, you can either meet directly at the Pompeii site or book roundtrip transportation from Naples. Both options are available at checkout.
Is this suitable if I have no cooking experience?
Yes. Mamma teaches from the beginning, and the class is designed for all levels. You learn by doing, and there's no expectation of prior skill. The experience is suitable for all physical fitness levels.
