Two Renaissance cities in one day: Piazzale Michelangelo, Santa Croce, the Leaning Tower, and three hours to explore on your own

A private guided tour departing from La Spezia port that takes you to Florence and Pisa with an English-speaking driver. You'll stop at Piazzale Michelangelo for views of the city, walk through Florence's historic center to Piazza Santa Croce and see the Duomo, then have three hours free to explore, eat, and discover hidden corners before a 45-minute stop in Pisa at the Leaning Tower and Piazza dei Miracoli. The tour runs nine hours total, includes an air-conditioned vehicle and bottled water, and returns you to the cruise terminal in time for boarding.

The experience

Your driver meets you outside the La Spezia cruise terminal at 8:15 and drives you toward Florence, stopping first at Piazzale Michelangelo. This overlook gives you the full Renaissance skyline in one frame (the Duomo, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery) all at once, and it's the moment most people photograph. From there you walk down into the old town, moving through the narrow streets toward Piazza Santa Croce, where the basilica sits at the heart of the neighborhood. Your driver points out the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and explains what you're seeing as you move through the squares.

At 11:15 you have three hours free in Florence. This is the stretch where you choose: lunch at a trattoria your driver recommends, a museum if you want one, or the Wine Window. A small opening in a palazzo wall where Renaissance servants once bought wine without entering the main house. The driver stays available if you need a restaurant suggestion or want to know where something is, but the time is yours.

After Florence, you drive to Pisa for a 45-minute stop at Piazza dei Miracoli. You see the Leaning Tower, the Duomo, and the Baptistery (the three monuments that make up the UNESCO site), and have time to photograph them and walk around the square. Then it's the final hour back to La Spezia, arriving at the cruise terminal by 5 p.m. in time to board.
