The experience
The boat departs from Palinuro's port, known for water clarity, and heads straight into the Blue Grotto: a sea cave lit by an underwater tunnel that turns the water an intense blue. From there the tour moves along the coast past the Port Battery and its defensive towers, then approaches the Capo Palinuro Lighthouse, one of Italy's most powerful. The route passes Punta Spartivento, where a rock formation called "The Face of the Witch" appears, and Cala Fetente, where sulfur gives the water a distinctive smell.
The Architiello, a wind-carved rock arch, and Rabbit Rock, an islet that resembles its namesake from the right angle, come next. The Cave of Bones, also called the Prehistoric Cave, held objects and animal remains from early humans. The Natural Arch of Palinuro, a large stone formation carved by water and time, closes the boat portion of the day before the boat reaches Spiaggia della Marinella at Lido Marechiaro.
At the beach club, you're assigned an umbrella and sunbed in a spot the staff chooses. The tour runs seven hours total, and a live guide in Italian narrates the stops and landmarks throughout. Pickup is included, and all fees and taxes are covered in the price.
