The experience
You board at Marina di Camerota and head out along a coastline carved into caves and inlets, each one named and with its own history that the guide shares as you pass. The boat stops at five caves (Grotta degli Innamorati, Grotta delle Noglie, Grotta di Cala Fortuna, Grotta Azzurra and Cala Monte di Luna) letting you see the rock formations and the water color shift as you move along the shore. The caves are the draw, but the beaches matter too: Pozzallo comes first, then Cala Bianca, a small crescent of white rounded stones that sits between steep cliffs.
Cala Bianca is where the 40-minute swim break happens. The water is clear enough to see the bottom, and the beach is small enough that you're not crowded in. After the swim, the boat continues to Baia Degli Infreschi, the final stop and the reason the tour is named for it. The bay sits in a natural rocky inlet with spring water that gives the place its name: Infreschi means fresh water. In Roman times it was called Anphorisca because clay was mined here for pottery. Later it became a small port with an oil mill, a warehouse and a chapel. The ruins of Torre del Frontone and the chapel of S. Lazzaro still stand. The whole trip takes about 2.5 hours, though the exact stops depend on weather and sea conditions.

I'm staying in Marina di Camerota for a day, how does this tour fit into the afternoon?
The boat departs from Marina di Camerota's port and the full trip runs about 2.5 hours, so it works as a morning outing or an early afternoon excursion depending on the departure time. You return to the same port where you started.
What are the caves like? Can you swim inside them or just see them from the boat?
The five caves (Grotta degli Innamorati, Grotta delle Noglie, Grotta di Cala Fortuna, Grotta Azzurra and Cala Monte di Luna) are viewed from the boat as it passes along the coast. The dedicated swim break happens at Cala Bianca beach, not inside the caves.
Is Cala Bianca really the most beautiful beach in Italy?
Cala Bianca was awarded that title by Legambiente in 2013. It's a small beach, about 70 meters long and 30 meters wide, made of round white stones and backed by rocky cliffs with very clear water.
What's included in the tour price?
The boat tour and the 40-minute swim break on the beach are included. Bring your own swimsuit and towel. The guide speaks Italian and shares the history of each cave and inlet as you travel.
