The experience

You start from the local office and cycle at a relaxed pace through Palermo's multi-ethnic old town, passing the architecturally layered Piazza Bellini and Piazza Pretoria with their Arab, Norman, Byzantine and Spanish details. The route crosses the Cassaro to reach San Francesco church and Piazza Marina, where Europe's oldest giant Ficus tree stands. Along the way the guide stops at the Cathedral (one of nine sites on the Norman Arab itinerary) to point out the building's historical curiosities, and at the Quattro Canti, the geometric center of the historic center itself.
