The experience
You meet your guide at Milan's Central Station and travel by train to Como in about an hour. Once there, the guide leads you through the city center to the Duomo, a Gothic cathedral that took four hundred years to complete but kept its original design when it finished in 1770. Then you board a boat for the cruise across the lake toward Bellagio, and during the crossing you'll see the villas that line the shore, including the one owned by George Clooney.
Bellagio sits at the fork where Lake Como splits into its distinctive Y shape, and it's been famous for its charm since the 16th century. The town is known for its colored houses, flowerbeds, and the Alps rising in the background beyond the lakeside villas. You have roughly two and a half hours free here: time to eat lunch at a typical trattoria by the water, browse the silk shops Como is known for, and walk the streets before the guide brings you back to the boat for the return cruise to Como and the train ride back to Milan.
