The experience
You arrive at an authentic riding school surrounded by rolling hills, where the horses are already saddled and waiting. A local equestrian guide meets your small group and walks you through the basics (how to mount, hold the reins, and apply commands to walk and halt), so you feel confident before you leave the stable. Whether this is your first time on horseback or you've ridden before, the guide sizes up the group and sets a pace that works for everyone.
The route winds through the Chianti landscape at a walk, passing vineyards on one side and native woodlands on the other, with olive groves stretching across the hillsides. You ride for 60 minutes, long enough to settle into the rhythm and take in the views without strain. The saddle gives you a vantage point for the sweeping Tuscan hills that you'd miss from the ground, and the guide points out the land as you go.
You'll need long sleeves, leggings or jodhpurs, and closed-toe shoes with non-slip soles. A helmet is provided. Several departure times run throughout the day (morning, early afternoon and late afternoon), so you can fit this around the rest of your itinerary. Pickup and dropoff are available as an add-on if you don't have your own transport to the school.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
Can I do this horseback riding if I've never ridden before?
Yes. The tour is designed for novice and intermediate riders, and the guide gives you a full briefing at the stable before you mount, covering how to hold the reins and apply basic commands. You need to be able to mount and dismount unassisted and follow the guide's instructions, but no prior experience is required.
How much time do I actually spend in the saddle?
You ride for 60 minutes. The full 90-minute experience includes the stable briefing, grooming time with the horse, and the ride itself, so plan for about an hour and a half from arrival to return.
What is the riding school like, and where exactly is it?
The riding school is an authentic historic facility set in the Chianti Hills, surrounded by rolling countryside. It's the starting point for all rides, and the horses are groomed and ready when you arrive.
What happens if I'm not comfortable on the horse once we start?
The guide leads a small group and sets a relaxed pace suited to all skill levels in the group. If you need to stop or adjust, let the guide know. The route is designed to be gentle and scenic, not demanding.
Do I need to bring anything, or is there a dress code?
Wear a long-sleeved top, leggings or jodhpurs, and closed-toe shoes with non-slip soles. A helmet is provided. Closed-toe shoes are essential for safety, and the long sleeves and leg coverage protect you from brush and sun.
