The day starts at Piazzale Michelangelo, where the city spreads below you and the light is best for photographs. From there the minivan carries you south through the Chianti hills (vineyards and cypress-lined roads) toward Siena. You'll have two hours in Piazza del Campo, the heart of the city, to walk the historic center and see the Palazzo Pubblico. The driver waits and you set the pace.

After Siena comes the winery stop, where you can watch how Chianti is made and taste the wine if you choose. Lunch with a tasting of six wines costs €60 per person. Wine tasting alone is €30. This is where the day slows down. You're not rushed through, and the driver knows the cellar staff.

The last stop is San Gimignano, a medieval hilltop town surrounded by 13th-century walls. The skyline is towers: Torre Grossa and a dozen others rising above Piazza della Cisterna.
