The Experience
How do you see Florence's most important monuments without spending hours on your feet? The golf cart does the work—you sit while an expert driver takes you through the historic center, across both major bridges, and up to the overlook that shows you the whole city at once. The route starts in the heart of Florence and moves through Piazza Ognissanti, where the church holds frescoes by Botticelli and Ghirlandaio, a crucifix by Giotto, and the graves of the painter Sandro Botticelli and Carolina Bonaparte, sister of Napoleon.
From there you cross Ponte Santa Trinita—a 15th-century Gothic bridge rebuilt after World War II—and then Ponte Vecchio, the symbol of the city, where the audio guide explains the reconstruction. The cart carries you into San Frediano, the oldest and most popular neighborhood, lined with shops of Florentine artisans, furniture makers and fabric sellers. You pass through a Roman gate, then climb toward Piazzale Michelangelo, where you stop for photos and can see every monument of Florence spread below you in a view that exists nowhere else. On the way down, you pass a three-level fountain, then reach San Miniato al Monte, a Benedictine abbey built between 1013 and 1018 in Florentine Romanesque style—the oldest church in the city, and the burial place of Carlo Lorenzini, the author of Pinocchio.
The tour includes WiFi on board and audio narration in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and five other languages. Service animals are allowed, and infants sit on an adult's lap. The whole route runs 90 minutes and ends where it began, unless you ask the driver to drop you somewhere else in the city.
