You arrive at the ranch, get fitted with a helmet, and spend 25 minutes in the field learning to ride. Then you're on a 60-minute guided horseback riding tour through Tuscan vineyards, olive groves, and cypress-lined countryside at a walking pace. A guide shares stories about the land as you go. You return for a group photo before heading back to Florence. No riding experience is required.
The horses are already in the field when you arrive at Crazy Horse Ranch, just outside Florence. Elisa and Vieri, who grew up riding these hills as kids, hand you a helmet and walk you through the basics—nothing complicated, just how to sit, how to hold the reins, how to ask the horse to move. You spend the first 25 minutes getting to know your horse in the open field, no pressure, no clock ticking. If you've never ridden before, this is where that changes, and it's slow enough that you actually feel what's happening instead of just holding on.
Then you're out on the trail. The horseback riding tour moves at a walking pace through rows of vineyards, past olive groves that have been there longer than anyone can say, past stone farmhouses that look like they're part of the landscape itself. Your guide talks about the land as you go—the history, the seasons, why things grow where they do—and for about an hour it's just the sound of hooves, the smell of earth and horse, cypress trees in the distance marking the ridge lines. The path winds through shady woods and back out into open country. There's no rush. At 90 minutes total, the whole thing fits into an afternoon without eating your whole day.
Before you head back to Florence, there's a group photo at the ranch. The kind of thing you actually want to keep, not because it's staged but because you're standing there still half in the saddle, and the Tuscan light is doing that thing it does. Elisa and Vieri started this because they couldn't imagine doing anything else with their mornings—that's the feeling you're paying for, and it shows.
