The experience
The walk starts from one of four meeting points: Amalfi, Ravello, Scala (Pontone) or Agerola, and climbs through terraced lemon gardens before entering a shaded forest. The route follows a valley floor where you'll see the Ferriere Waterfalls and pools. The forest canopy keeps the hike cool even in warm months. The main waterfall area has an optional 5€ entrance fee at the end of the valley, though access to the lower sections is free. The last stretch to the highest pools closes in the afternoon.
The hike covers 8 km with 350 meters of elevation gain and loss, taking about 4 hours total. Your guide carries hiking poles for the steeper sections and takes photos throughout the day. If the lemonade shop along the route is open, it's a natural stopping point. A small group shares the experience, so you'll hike with other travelers.
Wear good grip shoes or hiking boots. The terrain is uneven and can be slippery near water. Bring water and dress in layers since the forest stays shaded. You'll need moderate fitness to complete the walk. The pace is steady but not rushed. If you want a more challenging option, ask your guide about the San Lazzaro route from the waterfalls, which adds significant elevation.
