The experience
The boat leaves Marsala in the morning and heads to the Egadi Islands, stopping first at Cala Azzurra on Favignana's southeastern coast. The water here is so clear you can see the seabed. The bay is ringed by rocks with a strip of white sand in the center. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and the cove is built for it: fish of various species move through the shallow water, and the transparent conditions mean you see them easily.
By 11:00 the boat reaches Cala Bue Marino, where the sea deepens and the underwater life thickens. This cove was once a tuff quarry, and the tunnels and caves carved into the rock still mark the landscape above water. From there you move to Cala Rossa, which many rank among Italy's most beautiful beaches. The water is transparent and inviting, framed by cliffs and the pale stone of old quarries. The flat rocks make entry easy, and the contrast between the pale turquoise near shore and the intense blue of deeper water is the reason people come back. Scalo Cavallo, on the northeast coast, follows: a former quarry turned romantic inlet where the color shift from pale turquoise to deep blue happens in a few meters.
You land on Favignana itself, where the small port opens onto the island's main town. The tuna traps (mattanza) are visible from the water, and Palazzo Florio, the former tuna baron's palace, now houses an archaeological museum you can visit during free time on the island. Cala Fredda, with its posidonia seabed and pebble beach reachable by swimming, comes later in the afternoon. Lunch and an aperitif are served on board during the day. Bottled water and alcoholic beverages are included. The boat returns to Marsala by 18:00.
