The experience
You start at a ski resort in the Dolomites, where a modern cable car lifts you to 1,830 meters and the top of the toboggan run. The track is 2.5 km long with a 280-meter descent, equipped with artificial snow and lighting so it runs regardless of weather. You steer the sledge down at your own pace. The slope is rated simple difficulty, so families and first-time riders handle it easily. A helmet is provided if required.
After the run, your guide drives you onto the legendary Great Dolomites Road. The route crosses three valleys and four passes, each one opening onto a different face of the mountains. At Carezza Lake, you stop for 30 minutes to walk the shore if you want. The lake sits directly below the Dolomites' highest peaks. Near Costalunga Pass stands the Grand Hotel Carezza, built in 1893 as the Dolomites' first luxury hotel and once host to Empress Sissi and Winston Churchill. From there you descend into Fassa Valley, passing through Vigo di Fassa and Canazei before the road climbs again to Sella Pass.
Sella Pass is the tour's visual climax. The vertical walls of the Sella Group rise directly ahead, and from the pass you see the Marmolada glacier and Sassolungo: the most photographed mountain in Gardena Valley. A 10-minute stop lets you shoot and absorb the scale. Then you drop into Gardena Valley and stop in Ortisei, the largest town, for an hour to eat lunch and walk around. The drive back to Bolzano takes less than an hour.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
Can I do the toboggan run at night?
Yes. The sledge track is lit for night descents, and the artificial snow system means it operates in any season, so evening runs are available depending on the tour operator's schedule.
What is Carezza Lake like when we stop there?
Carezza Lake sits at the foot of the Dolomites' highest peaks and is considered the most beautiful lake in the range. You get 30 minutes to walk around the shore or simply stand and look. It is not a long hike.
Do I need experience to ride the toboggan?
No. The sledge run is rated simple difficulty and is designed for adults and children with no prior experience. You steer and brake yourself, going at whatever pace feels comfortable.
Is hotel pickup included in the price?
Yes. The tour includes pickup and drop-off at your Bolzano hotel, so you do not need to arrange transport to the ski resort.
What should I wear for the toboggan run?
Snowwear, warm and waterproof shoes, and sunglasses are recommended. The altitude is 1,830 meters and the wind can be cold even when the valley below is mild.
