The experience
You arrive in Orria, a small stone village with cobbled streets set deep in the Cilento landscape. The workshop begins with an introduction to clay as a material: its history, its properties, the rules that govern how it behaves. From there you move into two core techniques: the columbine method and the slab technique. The instructor walks you through the stages of handling and shaping, then finishing and drying your piece. You see examples of decoration and glazing, but the focus stays on your own hands and what you can make them do.
Midway through, you break for lunch. The meal is shared as a group, built from typical Cilento products. If the weather holds, you'll eat at one of the village's picnic spots or in the instructor's grandfather's olive grove. After eating, you walk together through Orria and into Piano Vetrale, the neighboring village known for its murals painted across its buildings. The walk is a chance to step into the rhythm of life here, to see how the landscape and the community shape each other.
The piece you make stays behind to be fired in a kiln: that happens after you leave, and shipping it home is arranged separately. What you take with you is the memory of making something with your hands, the techniques you learned, and the afternoon spent in a place most visitors never reach.
