The Experience

You start at Sorrento's main port, where you meet your guide and the small group traveling with you that day. A fast ferry carries everyone across to Capri, and from there a shuttle bus heads along the famous Mamma Mia Road toward the Blue Grotto. If sea conditions are favorable, you enter the cave itself; if not, the boat circles the island instead, giving you the coastline and the cliffs from the water. Either way, the boat ride is included.

Next is Anacapri, the quieter town at the island's higher elevation. A chairlift (optional, at extra cost) takes you up to Monte Solaro, the highest point on Capri, where the views open across the island and the sea. After you descend, you have free time to eat lunch at a restaurant of your choice in Anacapri before a shuttle brings you down to Capri's main square, La Piazzetta. This is where the island's social life happens—you sit with an espresso and watch people move through the piazza. From there, you walk through the elegant shopping streets and into the Gardens of Augustus (entrance is optional), which sit on a clifftop with views down to the Faraglioni rock formations. Once you've seen what you came for, a shuttle takes you back to Marina Grande, Capri's main pier, and the fast ferry returns you to Sorrento.

The whole day runs about eight hours from start to finish. Your guide is with you throughout, speaking English, and the group stays small enough that you're not herded through stops.
