The Experience

The driver meets you at your hotel, port or train station with a sign bearing your name, then drives you south along the coast toward Ravello. The drive takes about ninety minutes. Ravello sits on a cliff 1,200 feet above the sea, a rural medieval village where you'll have roughly an hour to walk the narrow streets, look at the views, and take photographs before heading back down to the van.

From Ravello, the drive to Amalfi takes thirty-five minutes. You'll have about an hour there to see the Cathedral of St. Andrew (the main landmark in the town center) and browse the shops, which tend to offer better prices than the tourist restaurants nearby. If you want lunch, tell the driver at the start of the day and he'll suggest a family-run place off the main drag and adjust the schedule so you have time to eat without rushing.

The final leg to Positano is a full hour along the panoramic coastal road. The driver will stop at a viewpoint or two along the way so you can photograph the coastline, then you'll have about fifty minutes in Positano itself—a pastel-colored town stacked down the cliffs to a small beach. The return to Naples takes the same route and arrives back at your starting point after eight hours total. The driver speaks English and handles all the navigation, parking and tolls; you just step out and explore each place at your own pace.
