The Experience

The driver meets you at your hotel, port or train station with a sign bearing your name, then drives you in a private Mercedes minivan toward Ravello, which sits 350 meters above sea level on a ridge between two valleys. Along the way, he describes the landscape visible from the vehicle—the architecture, the history, the details of the region—and answers questions as the road climbs. Ravello itself is a small town of narrow streets and arches clinging to the rock, with the Duomo at its center; you have free time to walk and explore on your own.

From Ravello, the route descends to the Amalfi Coast proper, a 36-kilometer stretch of coastline where the mountains drop steeply to the sea. The driver continues to Amalfi town, which overlooks the water with characteristic houses clustered on the rock face, ancient towers, and the Emerald Cave nearby. Again, you have free time to walk the narrow streets, visit the waterfront, or simply sit with the view. The driver waits with the vehicle and can suggest where to eat or what to see, but the stops themselves are yours to spend as you wish. Lunch and drinks are your choice—the driver can recommend places, and timing depends on what suits your day.

The tour runs 7 to 8 hours total, including the drive time, the stops in Ravello and Amalfi, and the return to your starting point.
