The experience

You arrive at Santa Maria port in the late afternoon for an aperitif and dinner on board Blue Magic, a sailboat equipped with air conditioning, a large swimming platform, Bimini shade and a powerful dinghy. After a safety briefing and itinerary overview, you stay overnight in one of three double cabins. The boat has been sailing these waters for ten years, so the guide knows which anchorages work best for the weather and which beaches to reach first.

Day two takes you into the Orosei Gulf, where the most beautiful bay is accessible only by sea or trekking paths. You anchor outside the buoys and swim to the main beach or take the tender to Lovers Beach, with its white sand and turquoise water. Later you drift to Venus Pools, a natural swimming pool ringed by white rocks and clear water, then explore the Grotta del Fico cave by dinghy. A third stop has a giant rock formation and a waterfall. You choose whether to spend the second night here or return to the port, depending on weather and your preference.

The final day heads south past Bellavista Cape to Cea beach, where you anchor in front of two red rocks for swimming and snorkeling. Lunch happens at the Ogliastra Isolotto, a rock in open sea that is the tour's highlight: a place to snorkel, swim and rest before heading back to port. The boat's fridge and freezer mean meals are prepared on board throughout.

Can I choose which beaches we visit, or is the itinerary fixed?

The main stops (Orosei Gulf, Venus Pools, Cea beach and Ogliastra Isolotto) are the core of the tour. The second night's location (a remote bay or the port) can shift based on weather and what you prefer, and the guide can adjust which surrounding beaches you reach by tender depending on conditions and your interests.

What are Venus Pools and the Grotta del Fico like?

Venus Pools is a natural sea swimming pool surrounded by high white rocks with a white sand beach and clear turquoise water. The Grotta del Fico is a cave five minutes away by dinghy from the pools, accessible only from the water and worth exploring for its rock formations and light.

How many people sail on the boat at once?

Blue Magic has three double cabins, so the boat accommodates up to six guests plus the guide. Groups stay small enough that the guide can tailor stops and timing to what the group wants to do.

Is this tour suitable if I've never sailed before?

Yes. You are a passenger on a crewed boat, not learning to sail. The guide handles all navigation and boat operation. Your role is to swim, snorkel and explore the beaches and coves the boat reaches.
