The experience
You start at Mount of Olives with a view across the whole Old City, then descend past Jerusalem's oldest Jewish cemetery: tombs carved into the hillside going back 3,000 years. The Kidron Valley comes next, where you walk among more tombs from the 1st century AD, the stone faces weathered but still legible. This is the geography of layers: you are literally walking downward through time before you even reach the gates.
Entry to Temple Mount itself depends on daily security closures set by the authorities. When the site is open, you walk to it via the Dung Gate and stand in front of the Dome of the Rock, the gold-topped shrine that has dominated Jerusalem's skyline for 1,400 years. If Temple Mount is closed that day, the tour pivots to the Tower of David instead, so the morning's structure holds. Either way, you move next to the Davidson Center, an archaeological park built right against Temple Mount's walls where excavations have uncovered the foundations and remains of the First and Second Temple periods: broken pottery, stone channels, the actual ground where those temples stood.
Modest dress is required at all holy sites: covered knees and shoulders, no exceptions. The guide will brief you on security procedures before Temple Mount. No religious objects, including Bibles, and no weapons of any kind are permitted on the compound. Entrance to the Dome of the Rock itself is restricted to Muslims only, so you see it from outside. The tour ends with hotel drop-off in Tel Aviv.

Is this one for you? This is a guided tour with a fixed itinerary and set stops, so you move as a group with a professional guide rather than exploring on your own pace. Choose it if you want the history and context of each site explained as you walk, and if you prefer not to navigate the Old City's maze of streets or arrange your own entry to Temple Mount. The guide handles the security procedures and knows which sites are open that day.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 12 years). Children under 4 can't be included in the booking.
What's the difference between Temple Mount and the Davidson Center?
Temple Mount is the sacred platform itself, home to the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque, where you stand and look at the structures from outside. The Davidson Center is an adjacent archaeological park where you walk among excavated remains: foundations, stones, and artifacts from the First and Second Temple periods that predate the current buildings by centuries.
What happens if Temple Mount is closed when I visit?
The tour substitutes the Tower of David, a fortress overlooking the Old City with views across Jerusalem and exhibits on the city's history. The rest of the itinerary (Mount of Olives, the Kidron Valley, the Old City streets, and the Davidson Center) stays the same.
Can I enter the Dome of the Rock?
Entry to the Dome of the Rock is reserved for Muslims only. You see it from outside on Temple Mount and learn its history from the guide, but you do not go inside.
How long is the walk through the Kidron Valley?
The Kidron Valley walk is part of the descent from Mount of Olives into the Old City. The exact time depends on the pace and how long you spend at each tomb site, but it is a moderate walk on a downhill path with ancient burial caves visible along the way.
What should I wear for this tour?
Covered knees and shoulders are obligatory at all holy sites on this tour. Comfortable walking shoes are essential since you descend Mount of Olives, walk the Kidron Valley, and navigate the Old City's stone streets for several hours.
