The experience

The day starts from above: Mt. of Olives gives you the Old City and Temple Mount spread out below, with the Dome of the Rock framed for a photo. From there you move into the Garden of Gethsemane, where olive trees older than memory line the ground where Jesus spent his last night. The Church of All Nations sits at the garden's edge, its mosaic floor and Stone of Agony built into the architecture Antonio Barluzzi designed in the 20th century over the remains of a Byzantine church that stood there centuries before.

The Jaffa Gate opens into the Old City proper: past the Tower of David and the city walls that have held for centuries. Once inside, the four quarters (Armenian, Jewish, Muslim and Christian) branch into narrow streets lined with markets, stalls and the layered history of who lived where and when. You walk the Cardo, a 1500-year-old Roman and Byzantine street now underground, its remains showing what Jerusalem looked like in the First and Second Temple periods. The Jewish Quarter holds the restored Hahurva Synagogue and a model of the Golden Menorah. The Western Wall (the only surviving part of the Second Temple) is where the tour reaches its most sacred moment for Jewish visitors. Via Dolorosa traces the traditional path Jesus walked to crucifixion, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built over the sites of crucifixion and resurrection, contains the Golgotha, the Stone of Unction and the Aedicule of the Holy Sepulchre itself, with access down to the Chapel of St. Helena beneath.

Because this is a private tour, you shape which stops matter most. Whether your focus is Christian sites, Jewish heritage, the Islamic quarter or the layered archaeology of the Old City, the guide adjusts the route and the time spent at each place. The vehicle is air-conditioned, WiFi is on board, and bottled water is provided throughout. Lunch, coffee and gratuities are on you. The remaining hours beyond the main tour time cover the drive from Haifa and back.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Russian and Ukrainian.

What is the Western Wall and why is it so important to visit?

The Western Wall is the only surviving part of the Second Temple, making it the most sacred site in Judaism. It's the place where Jewish visitors come to pray and leave written notes tucked between the stones: a ritual central to the experience of being there.

Can I focus the tour on Christian sites instead of visiting all four quarters?

Yes. Because this is a private tour, you customize the itinerary before you go. You can concentrate on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Via Dolorosa, the Garden of Gethsemane and Church of All Nations, or mix Christian and Jewish sites: whatever matches your interests.

How much of the 9 to 10 hours is actual sightseeing versus travel time?

The total duration includes the drive from Haifa to Jerusalem and back. The remaining time is spent on the tour itself: walking the Old City quarters, visiting the major sites and taking breaks in the markets and streets.

Is the Cardo always open, or are there times it's closed?

The Cardo is unavailable on Saturdays. Other sites may also close for religious holidays and festivals, so it's worth confirming with your guide when you book which attractions matter most to you in case any are closed on your travel date.

What's included in the price, and what do I need to pay separately?

Private transportation from Haifa, an air-conditioned vehicle, WiFi on board and bottled water are all included. Lunch, coffee or tea and gratuities are not included and are your own cost.
