The experience
You start the day in Haifa, where the tour picks you up and heads south toward Nazareth. The first stops are in the city itself: the Basilica of the Annunciation, built where Mary's house is believed to have stood, and the Church of St. Joseph, a Franciscan church built in 1914 just 200 feet away. From there the route drops into Lower Galilee, passing through Kfar Kana, the Arab village where Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding, about 10 kilometers from Nazareth.
The tour then reaches the Sea of Galilee, the lowest freshwater lake on Earth, where most of the day unfolds. You visit the Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha, the traditional site where Jesus fed the 5,000, and the nearby Church of the Primacy of Saint Peter, which marks where Jesus reinstated Peter as chief of the Apostles. A stop at the Church of the Sermon on the Mount follows, perched on a small hill with views across the water. The final major stop is Capernaum, the fishing village on the northern shore where Jesus made his home after leaving Nazareth. The Jewish Synagogue there overlooks the lake itself.
The guide speaks English or Spanish throughout, and all entrance fees are built into the price. The full route takes 11 hours, with pickup from your hotel in Haifa included. The tour is wheelchair accessible and suitable for all fitness levels, though the day involves walking between sites and climbing in some churches.
