The experience

The guide meets you at Haifa Port with a COMPASS sign and coordinates the pickup with your ship's arrival, so you move straight into the day without waiting for the group to assemble. All transport runs in air-conditioned vehicles, and the route is built around the cruise schedule. The return to port is timed to your re-boarding time, which means you don't have to guess how much time you have or rush the final stops.

The day moves through Jerusalem's religious landmarks in sequence. You start at the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of the city, then walk through the Garden of Gethsemane at the foot of the mount before entering the Old City itself. Inside the walls, you pass through the Armenian and Jewish quarters to the Cardo, a Roman road uncovered and restored in the Jewish Quarter, then continue to the Christian Quarter to walk the Via Dolorosa (the narrow stone path believed to be the route Jesus took to his crucifixion), and enter the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site of the crucifixion, burial and resurrection. You also stop at Mount Zion to visit King David's Tomb and the Room of the Last Supper. A visit to the Western Wall in the Jewish Quarter follows, where you can say a prayer beside the ancient limestone wall.

The final leg takes you to Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity, built over the grotto where Jesus is said to have been born. The grotto itself is a dimly lit rock cave marked by a 14-point silver star on the marble floor bearing the Latin inscription "Hic de Virgine Maria Jesus Christus natus est" (Here Jesus Christ was born to the Virgin Mary). Manger Square, in the heart of Bethlehem's Old City, is part of the stop before you return to Haifa Port.

How does the pickup from Haifa Port work with my cruise ship schedule?

The return transfer to the port is scheduled around your ship's re-boarding time, so the entire tour fits within your port call without you having to arrange the timing yourself.

What is the Via Dolorosa and why is it part of this tour?

The Via Dolorosa is a narrow, stone processional route in Jerusalem's Old City believed to be the path Jesus took on the way to his crucifixion nearly 2,000 years ago. Walking it is central to Christian pilgrimage, and the tour includes this route as part of the journey through the Christian Quarter to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

The Church of the Nativity contains a grotto, a dimly lit rock cave, where Jesus is said to have been born.
