White chalk cliffs meet deep blue water, and the waves carved grottos into both.

A licensed guide speaks English, German, Russian or Hebrew. Pickup is included from Haifa port or hotels. The tour runs 6 to 8 hours including travel time between stops. Entry to Rosh Anikra costs about 15 dollars per person and is paid separately.

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Haifa, Acre, and Rosh Anikra

  • Visit Bahai Gardens and learn history
  • View city and port from Carmel mount
  • Tour historical German quarter in Haifa
  • Explore medieval Acre city and walls
  • Walk narrow streets and bazaars in Acre
  • Visit Rosh Anikra grottos and cliffs

The experience

The tour starts at the Bahai Gardens, the terraced sanctuary at the top of Mount Carmel. These are the central gardens of the Bahai religion, and the guide walks you through the entire history from the 19th century to the present. From the upper promenade you get a view across Haifa's city and port. The route then moves through the German quarter, a neighborhood established in 1869 by German Templars: a piece of modern settlement history in the Holy Land that most visitors miss.

Acre is the second major stop, and the focus is medieval crusader history. The city was the last crusader capital in the Holy Land before it fell to Muslim forces in 1799, ending the crusader presence entirely. You walk the narrow streets and the old city walls, pass through the Orient Bazaar, and can visit museums if you choose (museum tickets cost extra). The guide covers the rival crusader orders (Hospitalers, Templars, Teutons), who were stationed here and the siege of 1799 under Napoleon.

Rosh Anikra is a natural reserve where white chalk cliffs drop straight into deep blue water. Over tens of thousands of years, waves carved grottos into the rock where the water meets the cliff face. Entry to the national park is about 15 dollars per person, paid on arrival. The cable lift down to the water level is also optional and costs extra.
