Walk Acre’s secret Templars tunnel and taste the market’s fresh spices

A private full-day tour along Israel's northern coastline visits three ancient cities: Caesarea, built by King Herod 2,000 years ago; Haifa, the third-largest city on the slopes of Mount Carmel with the Baha'i Gardens; and Acre, a 900-year-old crusader port where you walk the fortified walls, step into the knight's halls, explore the Templers' secret tunnel, and wander the market. Your driver and guide speak English and pick you up from your hotel.

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Caesarea, Haifa, and Acre

  • Visit ancient city of Caesarea
  • Stroll through Baha'i Gardens
  • View Haifa port from above
  • Discuss Haifa's multicultural history
  • Walk Acre's crusader walls
  • Explore knight's halls and secret tunnel
  • Experience Acre market culinary delights

The experience

If you have a free afternoon or a first morning in the region, this tour strings together three stops that would take days to reach independently. The route starts at Caesarea, the ancient Roman city King Herod built 2,000 years ago, then moves north to Haifa, where you stroll through the Baha'i Gardens and look out over the port from above. Haifa itself sits on the slopes of Mount Carmel and is Israel's third-largest city, shaped by over 3,000 years of history and now the country's most multicultural urban center.

The day ends at Acre, a medieval crusader port whose 900-year-old remains are still largely intact. You walk the fortified walls that ring the old city, step into the knight's halls, and descend into the Templers' secret tunnel: the physical layout of the site makes these spaces real in a way no photograph conveys. The market at Acre is still active, and you move through it on foot, seeing how the city's culinary life unfolds in the narrow passages between the stalls.

A local driver and guide who speaks English handles the route and the stops, and hotel pickup and drop-off are included. The tour runs 6 to 8 hours depending on how long you spend at each site. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available if you need one.

Top questions

What was Caesarea and why did King Herod build it?

Caesarea is an ancient Roman city built 2,000 years ago by King Herod as a gift to his benefactor Augustus. The ruins you see on the tour are what remains of that monumental construction.

Can I walk around Acre on my own, or does the guide lead the whole time?

You walk the walls, the knight's halls, and the Templers' secret tunnel with your guide, who explains what you are seeing as you move through the 900-year-old crusader port. The market is also on foot, so you experience the layout of the old city directly.

How much time do we spend at each stop?

The tour runs 6 to 8 hours total, and the time at Caesarea, the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa, and Acre varies depending on how long you want to linger at each site. Your guide can adjust the pace to match your interests.

Is the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa included, or is that a separate visit?

The Baha'i Gardens are part of the tour itinerary in Haifa. You stroll through the spectacular gardens and enjoy the view of the Haifa port from above as part of the day's route.

What makes Haifa worth a stop on this tour?

Haifa is Israel's third-largest city, built on the slopes of Mount Carmel with a history spanning more than 3,000 years. The tour discusses the complex aspects of life in the country's largest multicultural city, and the Baha'i Gardens offer both a visual break and a vantage point over the port.
