The experience

The tour runs the full loop of two scenic coastal routes that circle the Iveragh Peninsula, passing through villages, mountain passes and clifftop viewpoints. You'll stop at Torc Waterfall, a 20-meter cascade in a wooded glen; Ladies View, the panoramic overlook of Killarney's lakes and mountains that Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting made famous in 1861; and Cahergall Stone Fort, a 7th-century dry-stone ringfort with walls 4 meters high that once defended a chieftain's farmstead. Valentia Island sits on the route, offering coastal views and the history of the 1866 telegraph cable that first connected Europe and North America from this spot.

Because it's a private tour, your itinerary is not fixed. Your guide will suggest stops and timings, but you decide where to spend an extra hour, whether that's hiking to a viewpoint, browsing a village, or sitting with a coffee in Portmagee or Waterville. The vehicle stays with your group, so there's no waiting for other travelers or rushing through a site because the schedule demands it. Bottled water is included, and the air-conditioned car handles the winding mountain roads while your guide points out details most visitors miss: the history behind Sneem's two squares, the geology of the Kerry Cliffs, the wildlife and mythology tied to each pass.

The day ends back in Killarney. Pickup from your accommodation is included in the booking, so you don't need to arrange transport to the starting point.

Top questions

What is Torc Waterfall like, and how much time do you spend there?

Torc Waterfall is a 20-meter cascade formed by the Owengarriff River flowing from a mountain lake, set in a lush wooded glen in Killarney National Park. Your guide can suggest a stop, but the time you spend there is your choice. You might walk to the base, take photos, or move on quickly depending on your interests.

Can you visit Kerry Cliffs on this tour?

Kerry Cliffs is an optional stop on some versions of this tour. Ask your guide whether it's included in your booking. The cliffs sit over 1,000 feet high near Portmagee and offer views of the Skellig Islands, with an admission fee of €5 per person.

How does the private format change the experience compared to a group tour?

The vehicle is yours alone, so you set the pace and choose which stops matter most. You're not waiting for other travelers to board or leaving a site early because the schedule moves on. Your guide tailors the route to your interests and fitness level.

What is Cahergall Stone Fort, and why is it on the route?

Cahergall Stone Fort is a circular 7th-century ringfort with outer walls 4 meters high and 5 meters thick, built as a defended farmstead for a local chieftain. It sits off the main Ring of Kerry route near Cahersiveen, surrounded by coastal and countryside views, and offers a glimpse into early medieval Irish life.

Does the tour include pickup from my hotel or accommodation?

Yes, pickup is included in the booking. Your driver-guide will collect you from your Killarney accommodation and return you there at the end of the day.

What makes Ladies View worth the stop?

Ladies View is one of the most photographed viewpoints in Ireland, offering a panoramic view of Killarney's lakes and mountains. The name comes from Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting, who stopped there for a picnic in 1861 and were so impressed they gave it its name.
