7h–8h

Step-by-step itinerary

Ring of Kerry private day tour

  • Visit Kerry Bog Village
  • Enjoy Irish coffee at Red Fox Inn
  • Stop in Cahersiveen town
  • Walk along Waterville seafront
  • Travel the Ring of Kerry route
  • Stop in Sneem village
  • View panorama at Ladies View
  • Stop at Coomakista Pass

The Experience

The route circles the Iveragh Peninsula on a looped drive that takes in the Atlantic coastline, mountain valleys and a string of villages, each with its own character. Your guide stops at Ladies View, one of Ireland's best-known panoramas overlooking the Black Valley and the upper and lower lakes of Killarney National Park, and at Coomakista Pass, which sits 215 metres above sea level with views across Kenmare Bay and its islands. Weather permitting, you'll see Skellig Michael, an iconic island eight miles off the southwest coast.

The day includes a stop in Waterville, the only village on the Ring actually on the coast, where you can walk the seafront and this is usually where lunch happens (you arrange and pay for it separately). You'll also pass through Cahersiveen, one of the westernmost towns in Europe and still a working market town, and Sneem, a village famous for winning the Tidy Towns award, with its brightly painted traditional buildings and craft shops. An optional stop at Kerry Bog Village—a museum recreating 18th-century Irish life, the only one of its kind in Europe—is available if you want to add it; entry is cash only and separate from the tour price.

The private format means the pace and stops are yours to shape with your guide. You're not on a coach with thirty other people, so if a viewpoint catches your eye or you want longer in one village, that's negotiable. The driver handles the full 180km circuit, which leaves you free to watch the landscape rather than navigate it.

Top questions

What's the difference between the 4–6 hour option and the full day Ring of Kerry tour?

The Ring of Kerry Private Tour 4–6 is a shorter version of the same route; the full Ring of Kerry Private Day Tour from Killarney covers the complete 180km loop with all the major stops including Ladies View, Coomakista Pass, Waterville and the other villages. Your guide can advise which suits your schedule and interests.

Is there a stop where I can actually get lunch?

Waterville, the coastal village on the route, is usually the lunch stop. You choose where to eat and what to order; the cost is yours, and your guide can recommend spots. The tour price doesn't include food or drinks.

Can I visit Kerry Bog Village as part of the tour?

Kerry Bog Village is an optional stop on the route. Entry to the museum is cash only and paid separately from the tour; your guide can arrange the stop if you want to see how people lived in 18th-century Ireland.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

The tour runs in most weather—the Ring of Kerry is scenic even in rain or cloud. Skellig Michael, the island eight miles offshore, is visible only in clear conditions, so that's weather-dependent, but the mountain passes, coastal villages and viewpoints like Ladies View and Coomakista Pass are worth the drive regardless.

Is the guide included, or do I need to arrange my own?

An English-speaking guide is included with the tour. They drive the route and stop at the main viewpoints and villages; you don't need to arrange separate guiding.

Can I bring children or a baby on this tour?

Yes. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available. The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels, so families with young children are welcome.
