The experience
You start in the Menoreh mountains outside Yogyakarta, where small-scale farmers grow organic tea on hillsides that roll into tropical forest. A guide meets you and walks you through the plantation, introducing you to the villagers who tend it. The work itself is straightforward: you pick the leaves they show you, then move to the processing area to see how those same leaves become green tea or white tea depending on how they're dried and rolled. The guide explains the difference between what you've just made and the mass-produced tea sold in supermarkets: the color, the flavor, the way it brews.
After the hands-on part, you sit down at JogloMenoreh Restaurant to eat organic Javanese dishes and drink the tea you made. Bottled water is included throughout. The whole experience runs about five hours from pickup to drop-off, and the pace suits anyone. There's no hiking or strenuous work, just standing in the fields and working with your hands at a comfortable speed.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (12 to 16 years); Child (8 to 11 years). Under 8: they can't be included in the booking.
What exactly do I do when I harvest the tea leaves?
You pick the leaves the guide shows you from the living plants, learning which parts of the plant go into the tea. It's the same work the villagers do, done at your own pace in the open air of the plantation.
How does the tea I make taste different from regular tea?
The guide walks you through the difference as you process the leaves: organic tea grown without chemicals, dried and rolled by hand, tastes brighter and cleaner than supermarket tea, which is often dust and fannings left over from industrial processing. You taste both side by side.
Is the guide English-speaking, and can my eight-year-old come?
The guide speaks English throughout the activity. Children from age 8 are welcome and can participate in the harvesting and tea-making. Younger children can come but may find the hands-on parts less engaging.
What's included in the lunch, and is it enough for a full meal?
Lunch is organic Javanese dishes served at the restaurant: a proper meal, not a snack. Your choice of green or white tea and bottled water are included. All fees and taxes are covered in the price.
Do I need to arrange my own transport to the tea plantation?
Pickup from your Yogyakarta hotel is included. The guide will coordinate the time with you when you book.
