The experience
Four hours on the water, starting at a time the crew picks based on weather and tourist flow. You meet at Freedive Nusa school, get briefed on manta rays and safety, then board a speedboat with your instructor. The route is yours to shape: Manta Point itself is the draw, but if mantas aren't there that day, the crew knows other spots. Toyapakeh Wall offers an underwater wall lined with fish and corals. SD Point is a shallow reef drift with a high chance of seeing turtles. The water can be choppy (the operator recommends a light breakfast and seasickness pills), and you need to be confident swimming in open ocean.
A professional freediving instructor stays in the water with you as a guide, not watching from the boat. The full snorkeling and freediving equipment is included. You don't bring your own or rent separately. Towels, safety boxes for valuables, hot ginger tea, and a hot shower at the school round out what's provided. The briefing covers manta biology, behavior, and the rules for approaching them without stress or harm.
Understand going in: this is wild nature. The crew does everything to locate mantas, but sightings are not guaranteed. Weather can shift the meeting time or the route, and the ocean conditions are what they are on the day you go.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24h before the start.
What's the chance of seeing manta rays at Manta Point?
Manta Point is where mantas congregate, but sightings depend on conditions and season. If mantas aren't at Manta Point on your day, the crew will search other known spots, though the operator cannot guarantee an encounter since this is wild nature.
Do I need to know how to freedive, or can I just snorkel?
You can snorkel the whole trip if you prefer. The instructor is trained in both freediving and snorkeling, and all equipment for either is included. The briefing covers safety for both activities.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day I book?
The meeting time and route adjust based on weather conditions to find the safest, calmest water and best visibility. If conditions are unsafe, the operator will reschedule or discuss alternatives with you.
Is the boat ride rough, and what should I eat beforehand?
The water can be choppy, especially on the speedboat ride out. The operator recommends eating a light breakfast and taking seasickness pills in the morning (they provide them). If rough water bothers you, mention it when you book so the crew can advise on timing or conditions.
What's included in the equipment, and do I need to bring anything?
All snorkeling and freediving gear is provided: wetsuit, fins, mask, snorkel, weights, and freediving-specific equipment. Bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a towel if you prefer your own. The school provides towels, hot shower access, and storage in safety boxes for valuables and phones.
