The second waterfall crashes into a pool large enough to swim in, after a forest trek from the first.

A guided waterfall tour in Lombok visits Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep in Senaru village, combining a short walk down 300 steps to the first cascade with a 20–30 minute forest trek to the second, taller waterfall. The tour runs eight hours with hotel pickup, an English or German-speaking guide, bottled water and an air-conditioned vehicle. Children from age five are welcome. The trek involves river crossings and uneven terrain but suits all fitness levels.

Step-by-step itinerary

Visit Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep Waterfalls

  • Walk down 300 steps to Sendang Gile
  • Cool off in Sendang Gile pool
  • Trek 20–30 minutes through forest to Tiu Kelep
  • Enjoy Tiu Kelep waterfall and pool

The experience

The tour starts with a drive to Senaru village at the base of Mount Rinjani, where you descend around 300 steps to Sendang Gile, a 30-meter waterfall that flows into a shallow pool. The walk is relatively easy and the setting is gentle: a good warm-up before the longer trek ahead. From there, the guide leads you through forest and riverbeds for 20–30 minutes to reach Tiu Kelep, the more dramatic of the two: a 45-meter cascade that crashes into a larger, deeper pool where you can actually swim. The misty spray and the sheer volume of water make it the more famous waterfall in Lombok, and the trek itself is part of the experience. You're moving through actual jungle terrain, not just walking a paved path.

An air-conditioned vehicle picks you up from your hotel and handles the drive to and from Senaru, so you're not navigating the roads yourself. The guide speaks English or German and stays with you the whole time, explaining what you're seeing and helping with the trekking. Bottled water is included to keep you hydrated through the walk and the heat. The full outing takes eight hours, which accounts for the drive, both waterfall visits, time in the pools and the return to your hotel. Wear shoes with grip for the wet rocks and riverbeds, and bring a change of clothes or a quick-dry shirt if you plan to swim.

What’s included

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in an air-conditioned vehicle.
  • a live guide speaking English or German.
  • bottled water throughout the day.
  • parking fees at Senaru village.
