A full-day private tour of northern Lombok that starts with hotel pickup and takes you through Pusuk Pass (400m elevation with views of the Gili Islands), down to Sendang Gila Waterfall, and into the flat valley of Sembalun to explore traditional Sasak villages beneath Rinjani Volcano. The tour includes a live English-speaking guide, lunch, drinking water, air-conditioned transport and all entrance fees. Children from age 5 are welcome.

The experience

You start from your hotel and drive north through Pusuk Pass, stopping at a 400-meter viewpoint that overlooks the Gili Islands. The pass is also home to a monkey forest, so keep your bags and belongings close. The monkeys are as interested in your things as they are in the views. After the pass, the northern coastline opens up and the road leads to Sendang Gila Waterfall, a 125-meter cascade set in lush surroundings where you can swim and photograph. Lunch with simple meals is provided en route.

The second half takes you into Sembalun, a flat valley surrounded by the massive presence of Rinjani Volcano. In the villages of Sembalun, Lawang and Bumbung, you encounter Sasak culture as it has been lived for generations. This is where the traditional way of life remains most visible. Your guide walks you through the villages and explains what you're seeing, and there's time to photograph the landscape and the people you meet. The full day runs about ten hours from pickup to drop-off.

Bring sunblock, sunglasses, a hat, sport shoes and a towel. The waterfall swim is part of the itinerary. If your hotel is in the Kuta, Mandalika, Lembar or Tanjung Bloam area, an extra charge of USD 8 to USD 15 per car applies depending on your location. A minimum of two people must book together.
