The experience

The tour starts at Lempuyang Temple, one of Bali's oldest and most venerated temples, set in the highlands of Mount Lempuyang. A 20-minute walk from the parking area brings you to the main gate, the Gate of Heaven, where the guide helps you frame shots and explains the temple's history and Balinese culture. The temple sits at 1,775 meters above sea level, so the air is noticeably cooler than lower elevations.

After Lempuyang, you move to Tirta Gangga Water Palace in eastern Bali, a former royal water park now open to visitors. The first thing you see entering is a stretch of clear pools fed by mountain springs, so the water stays cool year-round. You'll have time here before lunch, which is a buffet meal served with views across the mountain and rice field landscape.

The final stop is Besakih Temple, the mother temple of Bali. The complex includes a central temple (Penataran Agung Besakih) and 18 companion temples spread across the site. On the way back, the tour includes a stop at a Luwak coffee plantation where you can watch the traditional process: beans dried in sunlight, roasted over firewood in clay pans, and brewed for you to taste. An air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking guide handle the driving between sites, and all entrance fees are covered.
