Four Stops Across East Bali, One Driver Who Knows the Route

You visit four major sites across East Bali in one day: the Gate of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple with Mount Agung views, the water gardens of Tirta Gangga Palace, Tukad Cepung Waterfall with its light-pierced cascade, and Tegalalang's terraced rice fields. Your driver speaks English, knows which roads avoid the crowds, and handles all entry fees and transport from your Seminyak hotel, leaving you to walk, photograph, and swim without logistics.

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Visit Lempuyang Temple and Gate of Heaven
  • Explore Tirta Gangga Water Garden
  • Trek to Tukad Cepung Waterfall
  • See Tegalalang Rice Terrace

The Experience

So you're standing at the Gate of Heaven—that's what people call the entrance to Lempuyang Temple—and Mount Agung is right there behind the gate, and you finally understand why everyone's phone is out. The temple sits at the top of Bisbis Hill in Karangasem, and the view of the volcano is the whole reason tourists started calling this place heaven in the first place. It's a working Hindu temple, not a photo set, but yeah, the light hits it right and you get why the name stuck. Your driver gets you there early enough that the crowds haven't packed in yet, which makes a difference.

After Lempuyang, you head to Tirta Gangga Water Palace—a garden built in 1948 by the King of Karangasem, all fountains and fish ponds and channels of water running from a natural spring. It's quieter than the temple, more of a place to walk and breathe. The palace was meant for the royal family to relax in, and it still feels that way. Then comes Tukad Cepung Waterfall, which means a short trek through the vegetation, and when you get there the light comes through the cliff gap and hits the water in this way that makes you stop talking. You can swim if you want, or just stand there. The amphitheater shape of the rocks makes the whole thing feel private even when other people are there.

Tegalalang Rice Terrace is the last stop, and it's the one you've probably seen in photos—those green terraces stepping down the hillside, row after row, using the old subak irrigation system that's been here for centuries. It's agricultural landscape, not a park, so you're actually looking at how rice gets grown in Bali. Your driver navigates the roads without the tourist traps, which matters because the main entrance gets crowded fast. The whole day runs long—you're covering ground across East Bali—but the driver handles the timing and the route, so you just show up at your hotel in the morning and get picked up again at the end.
