Ubud Silver Jewelry Making Class: Learn Traditional Crafts
Make your own silver ring, pendant or bracelet in three hours
A private silver jewelry making class in Ubud's Celuk Sukawati village, where you learn sawing, soldering, stamping, hammering, sanding and polishing under expert instruction. You work with five grams of silver and all tools provided, and walk away with the piece you made; the class runs about three hours and includes snacks and water.
The Experience
You arrive at the silver smith workshop in Celuk Sukawati, the center of Bali's jewelry craftsmen, and spend the afternoon learning the techniques that have shaped Balinese metalwork for generations. A private guide walks you through tool safety and usage first, then you move into the core skills: sawing the silver sheet, stamping patterns into it, hammering it into shape, soldering the joints, sanding the surfaces smooth, and polishing it to a finish. Each step builds on the last, and the guide adjusts the pace to your comfort.
You work with five grams of silver—enough for a ring, pendant, bracelet or small brooch depending on what you design. All the tools, equipment and materials are provided. The workshop supplies snacks and water or soft drinks throughout the class, so you stay fueled while you work. If you want to use more silver, you can add it for an extra charge of 100,000 IDR per gram.
By the end of three hours, you have a finished piece of jewelry you made yourself, not a souvenir bought in a shop. The guide is with you the whole time, answering questions and catching technique issues before they become problems. If you need a return transfer from your hotel, that's available for a separate charge depending on which area of Bali you're staying in—Ubud center, Sanur, Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Nusa Dua or Uluwatu each have their own rate.
