What’s included

Your day includes private hotel pickup and drop-off in an air-conditioned car with your own driver (and optional local guide if you choose), all parking fees and fuel charges covered plus bottled water to keep you going as you explore Udaipur’s palaces, lakesides and folk art spots at your own pace before heading back whenever you’re ready.

“You know, the royal family still lives here,” our driver Prakash said as we stepped into the shade of City Palace Udaipur. I’d half-expected a museum vibe, but it felt more like someone’s home—just on a scale I can’t quite describe. Marble underfoot was cool even in the late morning heat. We wandered through rooms with old photos and tiger cages (yes, actual tiger cages), and Prakash pointed out little details—like how the light hit the blue glass windows. He waited patiently while I tried to take it all in; honestly, I probably missed half of what he said because I was just staring out at Lake Pichola.

I’m not big on temples usually, but Jagdish Temple surprised me. The steps were crowded with people—some locals lighting incense, others just chatting quietly. The smell of sandalwood hung in the air. Our optional guide (I think his name was Ramesh?) explained a few rituals, but mostly let us watch and listen. There’s something about those bells ringing that sticks with you long after you leave. After that we took a slow ferry ride across Lake Pichola—the kind where you feel like you’re gliding past history itself. The breeze off the water felt so good after the city streets.

Lunch wasn’t included so we grabbed samosas from a street vendor near Saheliyon ki Bari (no regrets). The garden itself is peaceful—lots of fountains and lotus pools, families picnicking on the grass. At Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal later on, there was this puppet show for kids going on; I caught myself laughing along even though my Hindi is basically nonexistent. It’s funny how travel makes you drop your guard sometimes.

By late afternoon at Fateh Sagar Lake, everything slowed down—a few boats drifting by, teenagers skipping stones near the marble fountain. I sat on the bank for a while just listening to distant voices and watching the light change over the water. I didn’t expect to feel so calm in such a busy city. That view—I still think about it sometimes when things get noisy back home.
